REGENERATIVE AND FUNCTIONAL GYNECOLOGY

Postmenopausal vulvo-vaginal atrophy

The drop in estrogen typical of menopause leads to a weakening of the vaginal walls with loss of secretion which, in turn, produces changes that intensely condition a woman's sexual life:

  • vaginal atrophy.

  • vaginal dryness

  • Loss of elasticity.

  • Decreased compression capacity.

How does menopause affect a woman's sexual life?

The walls of the vagina become thin, not very elastic and not very resistant to trauma, which affects sexual life. Resolutive minimally invasive targeted therapy has become a necessity in IML for our patients.

During the arousal phase, muscle laxity can occur in women with a lack of tumescence in the external genitalia and lack of vaginal lubrication with a decrease in their own and their partner's sensitivity. They also increase the chances that intercourse will be painful on penetration and the risk of atrophic vulvovaginitis and urinary incontinence.

Women in the pre- or post-menopausal period are well aware of the problems caused by their genital aging and are increasingly consulting their gynecologist in order to maintain a normally active sexuality.

During menopause is when there is more demand for corrective-reconstructive treatments, since there is a close relationship between the aesthetic result and the improvement of functionality, which is so important for the well-being of women's lives.
