They say that the eyes are the reflection of the soul, but the lips reveal what is on your mind. Whether happy or sad, calm or contemplative, there are no facial features as expressive as your lips.

lip aesthetics

For thousands of years we have been fascinated by them, captivated by their beauty and seduced by their sensuality.  And while beauty ideals may vary, qualities such as the softness and sensuality of the lips remain unchanged over time.

Having soft, more voluptuous and hydrated lips is the order of the day. Thanks to this treatment, the volume can be subtly increased, giving greater softness, smoothness and restoring its natural hydrobalance.

Lip profiling is one of the most requested aesthetic corrections by patients who want to improve their expression and soften their lips, since many times, the lips are too thin and give a "hard" appearance to the facial expression.

The tissue of the lips is different from the rest of the facial skin. The soft tissue of the lips is constantly subjected to mechanical stress due to muscular activity and high pressure from the surrounding environment. In addition, the mucosa of the lip does not retain water in the same way and does not contain the same number of glands or pigments as the skin on the rest of the face. The lips are therefore more susceptible to dehydration.

Unlike the eyes and nose, they do not have a solid structure to associate with. All of these factors, along with the large number of muscles used to stretch and move the mouth, make the lips the most variable feature of the face. As we age, thinning of the skin, loss of muscle support, changes in bone structure, and decrease in soft tissue volume will occur, leading to a number of changes in the perioral region.

Inevitably the ring shape of the orbicularis oris muscle flattens with age, an atrophy that makes the lip thinner and less defined. Visually, lip aging is characterized by a decrease in the appearance of vermilion, flattening of Cupid's bow, and a dimming of the white border, that is, the vermilion border. In addition, due to muscle hyperactivity, marionette lines can form over time, just like perioral lines or smoker's lines.

As a result of these age-related changes in the perioral region, a person can often be judged to be sour or sad when they really are not. In most cultures, this equates to less attractiveness, looking less youthful and less desirable.

Post-treatment tips

It is important to know that patients will experience after the lip profiling treatment, an inflammation of the area during the three days following the treatment, recovering the definitive texture afterwards. In some points, the needle can produce some small marks that disappear the next day without any problem, also some bruises that disappear in a few days. Make-up and your usual cosmetics can be applied. You should not exercise, go to swimming pools, saunas or hot showers in the next 24 to 48 hours.
